Abrazos Family Support Services Receives Matching Grant from the Anderson Charitable Foundation for Autism Services

Bernalillo, NM — The Carl C. Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation in Austin, Texas has offered to match dollar-for-dollar all contributions made to Abrazos Family Support Services, up to $10,000, to support Autism Services, such as our After-School Program, which provides specialized instruction to middle school youth focused on communication and social skills.

Due to the NM Department of Health’s elimination of funding for youth with autism, we have become increasingly reliant on grants to continue our unique and much needed autism services programs.  The Autism After-School program is just one program within our Autism Services umbrella that suffered budget cuts.  Sadly, the Recreational Respite program was also eliminated from state funding and has had to turn to private funding to continue serving children with autism while in the community.

All donations received will be eligible for the Autism Services matching funds grant, which will help provide activities such as bowling, swimming, therapeutic horsemanship, and more.

Anderson Sr. & Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation,” said April Spaulding, executive director.  “Without grants like these, we would not be able to continue to offer these crucial services. Our Autism After-School program provides children who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder a chance to practice and improve upon communication and social skills, while building a sense of community and ownership in their school setting.”

Abrazos Family Support Services has proudly served children and adults with developmental delays and disabilities in Sandoval and Bernalillo Counties, New Mexico with dedication and distinction since 1978.  In 2007, to help address the crucial need faced by families of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Abrazos launched its Autism Services initiative, including the Autism After-school program.
